On cloud nine

“There’s always a reaction to the thing before, the idea of wanting to see things that seem fresh and unadorned,” Jacobs said during a preview. “I wanted to keep it very light, very soft, very fresh, and a very neutral palette with just slight hints of color, cosmetics colours.” Marc Jacobs

With London Fashion Week beginning yesterday I wanted to share with you one of my favourite show’s from NYFW which left me feeling inspired and captivated by understated simplicity.

The show – Marc Jacobs. Not only for the beautiful  collection but the surreal connotation’s it exuded, the extension of the clothes through a minimalist, maze like runway which seemed some what dream like & cosmic. The idea of uncluttered clean line’s mixed with dreamy, sheer fabrics is something I obsess over.

It was beautiful — chic, fresh and unfettered. Strong and oversized shapes where dotted in between soft,  sheer organza tiers & flattering scooped neckline’s . The earthy, neutral tones gave a serene & feminine collection the powerful edge, creating a very beautiful,  very wearable collection.

Vladimir Kush – Surrealist

Surrealism. It is an expansion of the mind, thinking outside of the box – putting things together that should not go together, or making an image of dream-like qualities. Proportion and perspective can be totally wrong in surreal art, probably the more so the better.

The oversized, fur bomber jackets in Jacobs collection seem out of proportion and over powering but played down with sheer fabrics and layered, ribbed knits give a new & fresh perspective on power dressing.

The runway itself was just as dreamy as the collection.  From above – its own piece of art.  Vladimir Kush inspired clouds hung from the ceiling projecting moody shadows over the set. Mind scape, maze rows with column shape styrofoam provided the seating. There was the sound of rain falling. The voice of Jessica Lange read softly against dramatic music.

My interpretation –  a beautiful simplicity. Jacobs created a show that stood out quite literally mile’s above the rest!
