  1. The introduction is perfect, when I think of fall, I do think of books and libraries as well. Fall/autumn just brings a different kind of energy and type of relaxation compared to summer. Some of these books I hadn’t heard of and am admittedly a book cover judger (but in a good way!). “Les fleures du mal,” “Mermaids,” my high school English teacher had recommended “The Summer We Read Gatsby” once before and “How To Identify The Stars” just seems like the most charming book ever! Thanks for sharing.

Ah Rosie I love your messages. Thank you so much for your comment! Mermaids is a really beautiful book – lately I’m drawn in by titles, sometimes a book with no cover intrigues me so much :)

Dear Elle and Rosie, thank you for this nice post with such a lovely and “souly” theme as books. The fall is indeed specific time full of les feuilles mortes in the air, thousands of mugs of hot herbal tea, cotton scarfs, first knitted socks and favourite or forgotten books on wooden book shelves. When open the first page, you have an instant feeling that you’ve missed this cosmic feeling for a long time. It’s almost the same as the first breath of just born child. The books have something divine. When you hold the old book of Charles Beaudelaire or other author, even not of well-known author, you feel gratitude for this moment. Sometimes you just do not want to close the book and go to sleep. In autumn you can take a little vacuum flask, blanket made of wool, camp chair and a book, and go to the shore or the beach and enjoy the life of sea, beauty of sea: its calm with little waves on the surface or storm with the melodies of the wind. We can just thank God and nature for this beauty, this great beauty – la grande bellezza that loves us. Sometimes we people forget to thank for this richness of our Universe. Although the world is not always a great place to be because of anger, jealousy, violence, lie, empty promises, unforgiveness, there is always someone and somewhere who lightens up own lamp of light, lamp of hope and makes this world better place to live.

Dear mademoiselles, I propose you to read next three books that give hope and suit to lovely autumn.

      – “Le Portique” of Philippe Delerm. As I know this book is only in French, and I recommend Elle this book especially for you. This book is a great piece of art, of soul and heart. You will never regret if you’ll read this book.

      – Wind, Sand and Stars (Terre des hommes) of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. No comment. You understand me.

      – The Cherry Orchard of Anton Chekhov. Punctual always as our life.

Thank you a lot and take care.

      With love,

      rh

      • Roman, your commentary was so thoughtful and made me appreciate autumn and books even more! You’ve truly painted a picture of what I imagine the perfect fall to be like in the east coast or somewhere outside of southern California (where I currently reside in which we have only spring and summer as seasons).

Elle, I have this used bookstore that I particularly like visiting and earlier in the year, discovered this beautiful 1950s Ikebana instruction book. It’s one of the books that I keep on my desk at all times, full of inspiration.
